At the seaside, "at their place": Egypt, part two

Translated from the Romanian original

We’re back from Egypt, I’ll post some photo-album-style pictures on the blog, just the way Luminița likes them :P, but until then I feel the need to say that it was our best vacation yet, everything I thought would be wrong turned out to be untrue, and we were pleasantly surprised by pretty much everything we saw.

I think that as we get older, it becomes increasingly difficult for anything to amaze us or leave us staring in wonder. That’s why it’s good to take things one step at a time and not use up too quickly all the experiences that can delight and surprise us.

In short, I now want to debunk a few preconceived notions about Egypt:

The heat is unbearable. Untrue, it’s a pleasant heat that you get used to after a day or two.

Egyptians (and Arabs in general) are unwashed/unfriendly. Wrong again. The only jerks around there were… the Romanians. But I’ll talk more about that in another post.

The streets are full of beggars. I didn’t see even one in 8 days.

They ask for money to let you get off a camel. Getting on and off the camel are included in the tour prices.

You’ll freeze to death in the desert at night. At night, the temperatures were comparable to those back home, maybe slightly higher. But there was a terrible wind blowing.

Prices are high, especially in restaurants. Nothing could be further from the truth. Prices are incredibly low. For example, a hearty lunch at a 5-star restaurant was under 70 RON.

Ciupercutza,

Sebastian,

Chiar că bălăcilă! :)

viorica,

Bine-ati venit acasa!

luminitza,

abia astept pozele alea care-mi plac mie;-) si ma bucur ca ti-a placut acolo, macar te-ai simtit cu adevarat in vacanta!nimic inca pe blog despre piramide..?

vergi,

robert,

Vrem si noi asa ceva! Poate la anul mergem in formatie completa toti 7. Undeva, oriunde. Doamne ajuta!

luminitza,

Sebastian,

@robert: Doamne-ajută! @lumi: Chiar, de ce nu? :)

Mihai,

Lumi are dreptate, in cazul calatoriilor, vrem sa vedem… pozeeee! :) (mai ales cele subacvatice!) P.S. :)
